Armstrong Watson LLP, Accountants, Business and Financial Advisers continue their investment in their Tax practice, with Alex Nicholson joining the firm from PwC to take up the role of VAT Director.
Alex has 10 years experience working with two of the ‘Big 4’ accountancy firms, having spent 6 and a half years with Deloitte and latterly, 3 and a half years with PwC. Alex has worked across many sectors including manufacturing, retail, education, tourism and hospitality, not-for-profit and private healthcare. He has advised businesses of all sizes and status, from private individuals and owner managed companies, through to the largest listed corporations on a vast range of Indirect Tax issues both in the UK and internationally.
Alex will primarily be based in the North East but will assist clients across the entirety of the firm’s English and Scottish network on all VAT and Indirect Tax matters. This will include general VAT advisory work; advice on available VAT-efficient structuring; assessing the availability for retrospective refunds; future savings and general efficiencies; support on transactions; assistance with HMRC enquiries or disputes, and VAT compliance.
Commenting on his recent appointment, Alex said,
“I am thrilled to be joining a firm with Armstrong Watson’s reputation and ambition. I have been hugely impressed throughout the recruitment process and since coming on board with the quality and passion of all of the Partners and staff throughout the Firm. My aim is to use my experience to provide pragmatic and commercial advice for the benefit of our clients and other businesses throughout the region, in order to add genuine value at a time of much change and uncertainty from a Tax perspective”
Paul Dickson, Armstrong Watson CEO and Managing Partner added,
"We’re delighted to welcome Alex to our team. His knowledge and experience will further benefit the clients we support and the advice we provide for companies and individuals throughout their business life cycle. VAT and Indirect Tax can be an extremely complex area for our clients and will, I believe, only become more complex post-brexit, so I am extremely pleased to have Alex on board. “
“It’s a very exciting time for Armstrong Watson as we continue our ambitious plans for growth. Having Alex join the team, both complements our intentions for expansion across our services and our geographical positioning as the largest Independent Accountancy, Business and Financial Advisers in the North.”
