We are very proud to announce that Director of Group Payroll Services, Karen Thomson, has become one of the first recipients of the prestigious accolade of Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP).
Chartered membership is only available through the CIPP – the only Chartered membership organisation for payroll professionals in the UK - and is an accreditation bestowed upon individuals who meet the standards outlined by the professional body and Government through the Privy Council.
Karen has over 20 years experience focussing on the payroll and pensions industry and is a Masters level qualified lecturer for the CIPP. She also sits on a number of government consultation forums representing employer and client views, as well as teaching the CIPP’s Foundation Degree in Payroll Management.
Joining only 9 other payroll professionals across the UK as the recipient of this accreditation, Karen is also the only CIPP member in the North West to be afforded Chartered Membership status.
Commenting on the accolade, Karen said,
“I am both delighted and honoured to have achieved Chartered Status. Being one of the first, not only in the UK but the world, is amazing. Armstrong Watson along with the CIPP have helped develop my strategic skills for which I am very grateful.”
Speaking on the achievement of Chartered membership for the first recipients, Ken Pullar FCIPP, CEO of the CIPP stated,
“Chartered membership for payroll professionals is an excellent achievement for the individuals, the profession and the CIPP, and I congratulate those who have received the first accreditations.
“The introduction of this grade of membership and recognition of the profile of payroll in the UK from the Privy Council will really help the CIPP in raising the profile of payroll within businesses.”
Payroll is an ever changing profession with legislation such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Gender Pay Gap Reporting, automatic enrolment for pensions and Working Time Regulations all impacting the industry. Payroll is also a ‘silent’ strategic business department with a wealth of information which could, and should, be used to shape employee engagement and wellbeing strategies.
Chartered Members of the CIPP will be able to demonstrate strategic value to their organisations, as well as ensuring that they are prepared and compliant with changes that affect them.
