Huw Nicholls and Sally Jones of Armstrong Watson, Paul Varley of Lloyds Bank and Andy Gray of Dere Street Barristers would like to invite you to the next of our regular series of Breakfast Briefings for the Legal Services Market in Yorkshire via Teams.
Although now using technology, as with our previous events, invites are still being restricted to key decision makers within key regional firms with a select group of regular attendees. That way we will still attract high quality nationally recognised speakers to present on law firm management issues.
Inflation has been the dominant story for the economy over recent years, with central banks first raising their concerns in late 2021. Interest rates have risen by a large amount since then and investors as well as private and corporate borrowers have felt the consequences, being forced to adjust away from the near-zero interest rate environment we had experienced since 2008’s Global Financial Crisis. Inflation has now eased significantly, but not yet to the point where the Bank of England and its international equivalents can relax. A balance must be struck between suppressing price pressures and slowing the economy.
As a fund manager, Richard sees these economic stories through the perspective of the markets and will therefore also explore current investment conditions. 2022 was a difficult year for most asset classes, while 2023 saw only a partial recovery. Stubborn inflation prevented further gains, and so should inflation and interest rate moderate, sentiment is likely to improve. We are in an uncertain time, but not one without opportunities and Richard will discuss the history to where we are now and the potential path ahead.
Richard is the lead fund manager of the Future Money multi-asset investment portfolios. He is responsible for fund selection and asset allocation decisions. Richard regularly shares his thoughts on economic and market developments through written pieces and live presentations and is accomplished at delivering complex material in an insightful and accessible style.
Richard joined the industry in 2009 and held fund research and portfolio management roles before joining Future Money Ltd in 2013. Having studied Economics at university he also holds a range of industry qualifications, including the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
