Andy Poole of Armstrong Watson would like to invite you to the next of our regular series of Breakfast Briefings for the Legal Services Market in Newcastle.
As with our previous events, invites are restricted to key decision makers within key regional firms. Our intention is to hold these events for a select group of no more than 20 regular attendees. That way we can attract high quality nationally recognised speakers to present on law firm management issues.
In this session, Richard will discuss the current and forecast major economic and investment market stories and developments.
In 2022 the objective of the western world’s central banks was clear: as inflation soared to 40 year highs, interest rates had to rise quickly. In 2023 a more complicated scenario exists: headline inflation may be receding, but core inflation is likely to remain stubborn, if central banks ease off rate hikes then inflation may rebound, yet to persevere with higher rates will exacerbate recessionary forces. Richard will share his thoughts on what this means for economic growth, the employment market and borrowing costs – with reference to what this means for law firm businesses and their clients.
As a fund manager, Richard sees these economic stories through the perspective of the markets and will therefore also explore current investment conditions. 2022 was a difficult year for most asset classes as the threat of recession loomed large. As the slowdown is now upon us and as high interest rates are starting to bite, we are seeing problems emerge, such as in the banking sector. On the one hand, investors are worried by these developments, but on the other they are relishing the prospect of nearing the peak of interest rates. Threats remain, but opportunities are also emerging, and Richard will discuss the history to where we are now and the potential path ahead.
Richard is the lead fund manager of the Future Money multi-asset investment portfolios. He is responsible for fund selection and asset allocation decisions. Richard regularly shares his thoughts on economic and market developments through written pieces and live presentations and is accomplished at delivering complex material in an insightful and accessible style.
Richard joined the industry in 2009 and held fund research and portfolio management roles before joining Future Money Ltd in 2013. Having studied Economics at university he also holds a range of industry qualifications, including the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
